Alpha ear Cleaner from Troy : alcohol based so it can be irritant and sting if the ears are ulcerated. This is a good cleaner for wax. It dries the ears out well. It has only mild activity against Staph and Malassezia. It contains menthol which might be very irritating to your pets eyes.
Bayer Clean ear Solution : Absolute rubbish. Don’t bother. It has no antimicrobial activity. It is useless for removing wax and pus.
Epi Otic from Virbac : Has mild activity against Staph and Malassezia. Not great for breaking up wax. It is low irritant. It isnt great for drying the ear and can cause maceration of the ear canal with daily use. Good for weekly cleaning
Ilium Oticlean from Troy : Not great. Mild wax cleaning ability
Malacetic Otic : Great for Malassezia yeast infections in the dogs ear. Has some activity against Pseudomonas. Not good for Staph. Use for pure yeast infections of the ear.
Triz EDTA : used for Pseudomonas infections in dogs. You put it in the ear 15 minutes before you apply the antibiotics. No good for wax. can cause yeast overgrowth.
PAW Ear Cleaner : This is a fantastic cleaner but it has caused problems with the middle ear and may be withdrawn from the market. It is extremely good for clearing wax but if it gets across the ear drum into the middle ear, it can damage your dogs balance system, ie it is vestibulotoxic.
